Digital learning has proved an invaluable tool not only in the variety of ways that students can learn

but in the way that they can access and complete work. One of our biggest issues is to boost self –

esteem and confidence with children who have difficulties in their learning as they often feel

‘different’ from their peers.

Example of student work

One of the areas that can cause acute anxiety can be presenting work back to the class. Adobe voice

has been a very useful tool in overcoming this as students can record information or talk into the

app which can then be played back to the peer group without them standing up in front of the class.

Equally, students can often express themselves better verbally where they may struggle in the

written format.

One of the biggest advantages is the scope in how students can complete their work and submit it.

Many students are able to select apps such as iMovie, powerpoint and pic collage as a way of

gathering information and selecting key points in order to present it.

This boosts their confidence as they often can use advanced skills such as animation to produce

work.

With regard to the I-Pad itself students can use spelling checks and predictive text to help them

recognise words. Students can increase font and highlight text to have it read to them. These are just

a few functions of digital learning that the students can access on a day to day basis to support their

learning. What aspects of digital learning can enhance self-esteem in your subject?
